Preparation and biological properties of an acetylated crude endotoxin from Salmonella typhimurium. J. Bacteriol. 91:1453-1459. 1966.-Acetylation of a crude endotoxin prepared by the Roschka-Edwards (RE) procedure from a strain of Salmonella typhimurium yields a product with reduced pyrogenicity in rabbits as well as one which is nontoxic in mice. A reduction in pyrogenicity of approximately 100 times was noted with this acetylated crude endotoxin when compared with the parent RE preparation. A comparison was made of immunogenicity with mice of Boivin, RE, and acetylated Roschka-Edwards (Acet-RE) preparations with a heat-killed, phenol-preserved (HP) vaccine prepared from the same strain of S. typhimurium. Less than pyrogenic doses of all vaccines were not protective. The least pyrogenic preparation (Acet-RE) was immunogenically effective in about five times the minimal pyrogenic dose. The data suggest that the Acet-RE preparation should be considered further in the search for enteric fever vaccines with lowered potential for undesirable systemic responses.

متن کاملThe Stimulation of Non-specific Host Resistance to Infection by Chemically Modified Endotoxin
An acetylated derivative prepared from Salmonella typhosa O-901 endotoxin has been found to retain the ability to stimulate non-specific host resistance to a variety of bacterial infections. Relative to the parent endotoxin, the derivative has been reduced in the gross in its pyrogenicity to rabbits and lethality to mice. With the use of this chemically modified preparation under a variety of c...
متن کاملImmunotherapy of guinea pig line 10 hepatoma with nonliving BCG cells in aqueous medium.
Killed BCG cells suspended in 1.5% carboxymethylcellulose cured guinea pigs with established line 10 tumors in a high percentage of cases. The bacterial preparation of BCG in carboxymethylcellulose displayed a stronger tumor regressive activity and the process of healing was accelerated when endotoxin from a rough (Re) strain of Salmonella typhimurium was added to the BCG bacilli.
متن کاملSeparation of Salmonella Typhimurium Bacteria from Water Using MWCNTs Arrays
In this study, Salmonella Typhimurium bacteria removal from polluted water has been investigated using multiwall carbon nanotubes arrays. Experimental results reveal that the contact time, the bacterial concentration and the weight of multiwall carbon nanotubes arrays have positive significant effects on the bacteria removal efficiency. Increasing the contact time and the weight of multiwall ca...
